I’m New, What Can I Expect?
We know that going to a new church for the first time can be intimidating. We want to help make your first experience at Calvary East a great one!
Here is some information to help you.
Service Times
Bible Study Groups: 9:00 A.M.
Sunday Worship: 10:30 A.M.
5495 East Main Street,
Kalamazoo, MI 49048
People begin to gather in our lobby for coffee, tea, and snacks about 20 minutes before the service begins at 10:30 a.m. The service itself lasts around 70 minutes.
What Is The Service Like?
We often begin with our worship band leading us in singing both hymns and contemporary songs of praise. The lyrics are projected for everyone to join in, but feel free to just listen if you are not familiar with the songs.
We devote around 40 minutes of the service to learning from the Bible. Most of the time our pastor leads us through a verse-by-verse study of a biblical book. We seek to understand both its original meaning and its application for us today. Note sheets are available at the sanctuary entrances to help you follow along.
Children’s Ministry
Older children are welcome to participate in our worship service. We have a kids version of our sermon notes sheets for them to use.
We also offer a nursing moms room, nursery care (newborn-3 yrs), and a kids worship class (ages 4 and up) during our worship service.
How do I get more involved?
1. Join us for prayer, Bible study, and discussion on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. in our fellowship room.
2. Every fall and spring our pastor hosts a welcome lunch after a morning worship service for newcomers to find out more about our history, doctrine, and philosophy of ministry.
3. If you are interested in helping out in some way on Sunday mornings, keep an eye out for our bi-monthly serving sign-up!
Have More Questions?
We Would Love to Connect with you!
-
The atmosphere and dress is casual at Calvary East so please wear what you feel comfortable in.
-
We do collect an offering at the end of our Sunday morning worship service, but we never pressure anyone to give. Many people who support the church do so by donating online.
We also use our offering to collect what we call “communication cards.” These are handed out early in the service and serve as an easy way for people to sign up for events, share prayer requests, and respond to our pastor’s teaching. We invite you to fill one out so that we can send you a welcome gift.
-
We use the English Standard Version of the Bible. If you do not have a Bible of your own, there are copies underneath the chairs in our sanctuary. You are welcome to use one and take it home with you.

Our children’s area is on the second floor of our building. As you face the sanctuary, the stairway is to your right in the northwest corner. The nursing mom’s room will be on your right at the top of the stairs, and you will see the nursery straight ahead. Continue farther down the hallway to find the kids worship room.
